Hello FOX Support,

We recently migrated from CURCY — WooCommerce Multi Currency to FOX Currency Switcher Professional. Our reason for switching was not functional. CURCY worked correctly for currency detection and switching, but it caused very high CPU and resource usage on our hosting environment.

To resolve that performance issue, we migrated to FOX. After migrating to FOX, the server resource issue was resolved. However, we are now experiencing two issues that appear to be related and affect only our base currency (USD).

First, when browsing the website from a USA IP, the currency does not consistently remain in USD. For example, the homepage may display AUD, CAD, or GBP, and navigating to another page may switch the currency again. Sometimes it changes to USD, and other times it remains on the wrong currency. We have tested GeoIP mappings for other countries (UK to GBP, Canada to CAD, Australia to AUD), and they work as expected. The problem seems isolated to USD, which is also our WooCommerce base currency.

Second, we use CTX Feed to generate Google Merchant Center feeds. Feeds generated in GBP, CAD, AUD, etc. are correct. However, when generating a USD feed, the exported prices are sometimes converted using the currently active currency instead of the base USD prices. Because both issues affect only USD, and they started only after moving from CURCY to FOX, we suspect there may be an issue with how FOX preserves or exposes the base currency. Could you please advise if this is a known issue or if there is a recommended configuration fix? We can provide admin access, staging site details, logs, or steps to reproduce the issue.

Hello Saad

Thank you for the detailed report, and for explaining the background of the migration. Let's work through both issues one by one.

  1. The CTX Feed / USD feed issue

This one we need to look at closely, because the price context during feed generation is defined by how the feed plugin itself calls WooCommerce prices. To investigate this properly, please do the following:

  • Create a clone of your site (a staging copy), where we can safely reproduce the problem
  • Record a short screen video on that staging site showing the issue: generate the USD feed with CURCY active and show that the prices are correct, then switch to FOX and show that the same USD feed comes out converted

The video with both plugins side by side is important. It will let us see exactly at which point the currency context is applied differently, and if CURCY handles this case better, we will make FOX handle it the same way.

  1. Currency not staying on USD for US visitors

We will test geolocation from several locations on our side as well, but there are a few things we need you to check first, because in most cases the base currency behaves differently for one of these reasons.

  • Only one currency switcher must be active on the site. If CURCY (or any other currency plugin) is still installed, even deactivated but with its code or leftovers running, the two will conflict and the results will be exactly like what you describe: the currency changing from page to page. Please make sure FOX is the only currency solution on the site.

  • If your site uses any caching (a cache plugin, a server-level cache, or a CDN), please go to the FOX Options tab and enable the option"I am using cache plugin on my site", then purge all caches completely: the plugin cache, the server cache and the CDN cache. Caching is the single most common cause of the symptom where the currency looks correct for some countries but jumps randomly for the base currency, because pages for the base currency are usually stored without a currency cookie and can be served to anyone.

Please also confirm which version of FOX you are running, and whether the feed is generated manually or by cron.

Once you have the staging site and the video ready, send us the access details and we will continue from there.
