Prices showing as £ until checkout and then shows correct for GeoIP

I've been tearing my hair out with this one. Thought I had it all working - geoIP was showing the price as US Dollars if my vpn was set to USA, Canadian Dollars for Canada ip and £ for UK.
Two days later and the client is saying that his wife (US based) is seeing prices in GBP until the final checkout screen (I have force checkout by GEOIP set).
Now testing it in VPN, the prices are erratic. Trying private browsers, but very difficult to troubleshoot.
Currently testing on a canada IP - prices of shop page showing in £ - click on a product and shows as USD. Add to cart and check out shows as CAD.
Can I provide a login for you to have a look?
