Terms count goes to zero after filtering

Hi, the filter works for a custom taxonomy until a term is selected and the filter runs. Then the term count for all other terms is reduced to zero until the filter is reset again.
Here is before and after a filter term is selected with Hide Empty Terms set to Yes

You can see in both cases that the count for each term is being set to zero after filtering, until the filter is reset. How can I resolve this?
