On our website, the default currency is GBP, while for United States users, it is USD, with a fixed exchange rate of 1.5.

Additionally, we have different shipping rules:

  • United Kingdom: £6.99 shipping fee
  • United States: Free shipping

Currently, only GEOIP detection is active, and there is no currency switcher available. However, we have noticed that some U.S. users somehow manage to change the currency to GBP during checkout, allowing them to purchase items at a lower price while also benefiting from free shipping meant for U.S. customers.

We are unsure how they are doing this. Could you provide guidance on how to prevent this issue?

GeoIP works only for the user's first visit, then the plugin stores the user's last currency.  It is very easy to bypass this if the user uses a VPN or your server passes a non-actual IP of the user to the global variable (this often happens on some servers with optimization). Or the cache on the site is not configured correctly. It doesn't depend on us because our plugin uses the functionality of woocommerce to determine the location.

On our part, we can change it so that GeoIP starts working for any visit, but we cannot influence the fact that woocommerce may not correctly determine the user's location.
