Filters show irrelevant results

Hello.
I sell two items"Tops" and"Dresses".
I have 2 colours for tops and 2 colours for dresses.
The tops come in red and blue
The dresses come in black and white
But when I am browsing a category, the woof filter will still show options from the other category as well.
For example, if I am browsing the 'Tops" category (which only have red and blue colours) the filter still shows the option to select the colours of the dresses also (black and white).
I think that maybe the filter is not recognising the query which i have set for the woocommerce products widget??
For each page i have set the woocommerce products widget query as follows:
- For the dresses page - Product Categories: Dresses
- For the tops page - Product Categories: Tops
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you kindly.
